What People are Saying About CottonMouth

The first Cottonmouth song I ever heard was South Gastonia Blues ……

No, not the version from Rusty Monte Carlo but one from a homemade 4-song EP whose [graphics actually came from a typewriter]. I can still remember the 4 songs:

South Gastonia Blues [original]
Whiskey Rock-And-Roller [Skynyrd]
Roadhouse Blues [Doors] And
A Country Boy Can Survive [Hank Jr.]

I can take or leave Lynyrd Skynyrd, although they had some pretty good tunes, but comparisons of Cottonmouth to them are unavoidable. THEIR version of Whiskey Rock-A-Roller is as good or better than Ronnie Van Zandt’s … there, I said it and’ll stick by it. As a College Radio programming/music director I delighted in the fact that our competition reportedly snubbed callers requesting them [well they DO play an awful lot of bluegrass] and we’d always gladly spin ANY Cottonmouth tune on a moments notice proud that a listener shared our appreciation of the heart and soul that pours out of their music. I’ve bugged CottonMouth for years to get a website. It gets embarrassing to have to tell folks who call the radio show that you really don’t know –how- they can get their CD’s. I’ve actually sent out one, at my own expense, to a girl from upstate New York and had just been driving by on Interstate 85 long enough to catch a Cottonmouth song on 91.7fm.

What better story can I tell about this phenomenal band? They’re still writing it.

CottonMouth is a great band. They’re a very hard working bunch of guys with a lot of style and a good grip on what they do. They know what they want and how to make it happen. On top of that, they’re easy to work with and a lot of fun to be around.

Cottonmouth draws heavily from the music that has influenced the members; Skynyrd, Hank, Jr., Bad Company. It is down and dirty stuff and it fills the dance floor. It is actually more a kind of "folk" music in that the "folk” probably find a lot more meaning and feeling in a good take on "Give Me Two Steps"; or a song like "Redneck", than they would with what is commonly thought of as folk now. Rock and roll will never die as long as bands like Cottonmouth are playing.

CottonMouth

CottonMouth writes and performs music that is generated from the hearts and souls of musicians who are influenced by the music of the ‘70s and ‘80s. We grew up listening to artists like Hank Sr. and Jr., Led Zeppelin, George Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Merle Haggard, Chicago, Waylon Jennings, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, etc. etc… The list goes on. During the 1980s these influences were corrupted with all the trash music and mainstream radio influences. Hopefully, you will not find those in our music. Our music reflects what we listened to growing up. We took it all in and now we are spittin’ it back out, CottonMouth style. A lot of bands like to say it, but no one is totally original, there just doing there own thing.
