CottonMouth

CottonMouth writes and performs music that is generated from the hearts and souls of musicians who are influenced by the music of the ‘70s and ‘80s. We grew up listening to artists like Hank Sr. and Jr., Led Zeppelin, George Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Merle Haggard, Chicago, Waylon Jennings, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, etc. etc… The list goes on. During the 1980s these influences were corrupted with all the trash music and mainstream radio influences. Hopefully, you will not find those in our music. Our music reflects what we listened to growing up. We took it all in and now we are spittin’ it back out, CottonMouth style. A lot of bands like to say it, but no one is totally original, there just doing there own thing.

Band Bio...

Bernie has been playing guitar and singing since he was a kid. He was introduced to music through Bluegrass and country and then on to Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is the proud owner of the Rusty Monte-Carlo. Dirty Dog has been playing guitar since he was a kid. DD and Bernie met the summer of 1984 on the football field and have been pickin’ tighter ever since. DD and Bernie know Sam H in high school, but not on a musical level. Sam-H is a phenomenal trombone/piano player who was convinced by DD in 1988 to play drums. He just set down one day and started playing and was gigging on drums in about 2 weeks. Bernie, DD and Sam-H started playing together around 2000, and have been CottonMouth since that time. Jeff-R was the original bass player in CottonMouth but left several years ago to do his own thing. He was replaced with Ronnie-G, who is the only member of CottonMouth that is form the North side of the Mason/Dixon line. But hey, we let him slide. He’s a good guy and a versatile bassist and drummer.

Bernie had always done his own thing Musically and played a lot with Joel Van Tassel who is now playing bass with Jeff Bates (RCA Recording Artist) prior to forming CottonMouth.

Dirty Dog always wanted to Rock-out. Forming his first band in High School called The Speedbumps. After that it was a 3-year stint with AFTER-SIX. He has played with David Childers and was in a band Called Bobby Peru prior to forming CottonMouth.

Sam-H started rockin’ with the Ashbrook Marching band and was the drummer for AFTER SIX and Bobby Peru prior to forming CottonMouth.

Ronnie-G Hails form Pennsylvania and has played with Dusty Drake (Warner Brothers) as well as Brad Paisley. He now holds bass responsibilities for CottonMouth as well as being a drummer for hire.

Music is to listen to, not to criticize and categorize.

What people are saying

The first Cottonmouth song I ever heard was South Gastonia Blues ……

No, not the version from Rusty Monte Carlo but one from a homemade 4-song EP whose [graphics actually came from a typewriter]. I can still remember the 4 songs: South Gastonia Blues [original], Whiskey Rock-And-Roller [Skynyrd], Roadhouse Blues [Doors], and A Country Boy Can Survive [Hank Jr.]

CottonMouth is a great band. They’re a very hard working bunch of guys with a lot of style and a good grip on what they do. They know what they want and how to make it happen. On top of that, they’re easy to work with and a lot of fun to be around.

Cottonmouth draws heavily from the music that has influenced the members; Skynyrd, Hank, Jr., Bad Company. It is down and dirty stuff and it fills the dance floor. It is actually more a kind of "folk" music in that the "folk” probably find a lot more meaning and feeling in a good take on "Give Me Two Steps"; or a song like "Redneck", than they would with what is commonly thought of as folk now. Rock and roll will never die as long as bands like Cottonmouth are playing.
